Monster Start For WCA Jays

The WEST COAST AUTHENTIC Kelowna Jays opened their 2012 schedule with a 3 game road trip to Trail and received a MONSTER performance from Kelowna’s MIKE MONSTER!

On friday night Mike pitched a complete game 9 – 0 shutout, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 13 Orioles batters.

Monster, coming off his rookie season with the Okanagan College Coyotes, was in top form and demonstrated the value of what he learned from OC pitching coach Jared Johnson.

Monster had great run support as Jays Jared Johnson was 3 for 3 with 3 rbi’s, Raymond Guiton was2 for 3, scored 3 runs, and had 1 rbi, Jordan Varga, Jordan Devencenzi ,Tyler Enns and Thomas Bidzinski each had 2 hits.

On Saturday the hits were a little scarcer and the pitching and defence dominated as the Jays and Orioles split the double header with 2 – 1 wins.

The WCA Jays pulled off an extra inning win scoring the winning run in the top of the 8th when Jordan Varga led off with a double, advanced to 3rd on a ground out, and was singled home by Jordan Devencenzi.  Dominic D’sousa picked up the win with 2 scoreless relief innings.  Dawson Newman pitched the 1st 4 innings giving up 1 run on 4hits, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts, and Cory Wood pitched 2 scoreless innings.

The Jays were not so fortunate in the other game,  going into the top of the 7th down 2 – 0 they got a clutch solo home run from Austin Bartleson but that was all.  Colton Lindsay pitched a great game allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Winning pitcher for trail was Kellen Jones who was solid allowing only 5 hits and striking out 4.

Trail scored solo runs in the 3rd and 5th innings and the Jays left the bases loaded in 2 innings.  Thomas Bidzinski was 2 for 4 for the Jays.

The WCA Jays play a double header at 3pm today in Kamloops before coming home to open on Wednesday night hosting the Vernon Diamondbacks at Elks Stadium at 7:30pm.  They will also host an ICE-BREAKER series on Saturday/Sunday June 2nd and 3rd with Langley Blaze, Kamloops Sun Devils and Trail Orioles. Games get under way at 11 am on Saturday with 4 games each day.

The 2012 Jays have an exciting young group of college players assembled and they should be a treat to watch as the compete in their Pacific International League Schedule.
